Attended this last week, an entertaining awards ceremony at the City Halls followed by a dinner at The Hilton. Magic! Shared a table with Paul Buchanan, mainman of The Blue Nile. I vivdly revall buying thier first record "A Walk Across The Rooftops" in oo-eerr... 1984-85. The band I was in at the time were following the kind of "big sound" set by The Waterboys, big verses with bigger choruses and even bigger "repeat chorus and fade" stuff. The Blue Nile album gave that notion a real kick up the jacksie - lots of space! Don't be afraid to leave things out... "Stay" is still one of my favourite songs ever. And Paul was charming; great company and very easy to blether with. Hope he got a word in actually...
