Jan 2007 (okay, I just started the blog today!)- Whilst attending MIDEM in Cannes - the worlds largest music business event - I went to a gig and thought I recognised the drummer. Lets face it, its always the first thing we tub thumpers look at. Whilst the band were slick, the drummer kept throwing in some seriously tasty chops. Then I thought back to pix in Rhythm magazine of a drummer who was a karate black belt. Believe it or not (looking at my chunky state these days) I too was a 1st dan in Shoto Kan karate in, oooh 1823 or something. I realised it was Russell Gilbrook, session guy and clinician...and he was smaller than me. Even if you check his muscles on his site, I reckon I could have took him...heh heh! As is usual with most drummers, he was very nice. Cheers Russell!
